My name is Ligia Bote and I am very pleased that beginning with September 2007 I joined Herald's Organization staff. Until now, I have worked as a social worker in two different fields: the assistance of people with disabilities and child protection. Single parent field is a domain that represents a challenge for me.

In my opinion, social work is the most wonderful profession because it focuses on the person and his well being. At the first sight it may look as unimportant and less attractive, but if you investigate in detail you can find the value it hides.
Usually, when we walk on top, we have brave hearts, and we think about ourselves that we are able to confront any impediment, we strongly believe in ourselves and we urge those who suffer to fight if they intend to reach victory, which we consider that it is an reward. But in the moment we are fully aware of our humanity, our instability, our impossibility to preserve happiness, then we start learning that man's destiny is not in his power and that somewhere in the Universe a higher power does exist. We learn that there is only one reality which may be explained differently, we discover the significant role of the way we interpret the events we or other people pass through. Then we make ourselves aware about our fundamental truths, values, stereotypes that rule our lives and we may be astonished by the things we have not been aware of. At this point the fight with ourselves starts, the fight we certainly don't win, if we do not benefit by the help of The One who created us, and who knows better the way we “function”.Who else can offer a better help?
Social work is a profession that consists in acting when people are in crisis, and one of its principles is to help the people to help themselves. So, the social worker's responsibility is not at all insignificant. The social worker may be called “The Opener of the way”, the one who has the obligation to find together with the beneficiary, the solution to the last one's problems. It is important to remember that the social worker should be in partnership with his client, one condition for success is collaboration. And even so, beyond their efforts God remains as an supreme authority, the authentic “Opener of the way”...
So, with faith in God Almighty and in my own abilities and knowledge I begin to work in this domain of social work called the assistance of single parents.

I named this article " The burden of loneliness " because I had the sad chance to listen, look and feel,how hard it can be for the lonely women to confront problems, but on the other side I had to admire them for the fighting spirit they have.

General information about the project

From january to april 2007 at The Counselling and Support Center for Parents 16 families were asking for help. Five of these families were accepted in our assistance project, the others were informed and advised to ask help from other centers or organisations.
