A new work year has begun in September and it has brought new challenges from which the greatest were:
1. Taking over in our project new 7th and 8th grade teenagers
About 50 former and new assisted teenagers were taken in our evidence already
We have met these teenagers by doing a sustained work of promoting in schools (during school classes or during parents meetings) and mass-media ( local newspapers and radios) the social assistance we are able to give.
The selection of the 30 assisted teenagers was made by evaluating their financial, emotional, social and educational difficulties.
2. Renewal of our yearly request for support from the Town Hall
Again, as we got used with it already, we had to prepare for our Town Hall the description of the Center's work, of the activities we plan for the next year with the teenagers, of the strategy we are going to use in achieving our goals; in short: a lot of paper work in order to apply for the Town Hall Support.
3. The selection of 21 volunteers who will give educational assistance at Romanian Language and Maths to the 7th and 8th grade teenagers in order to prepare and help them to sustain their exams and continue their studies. Some of them will give educational assistance at English Language for all the teenagers that want to learn English. So, the tutoring activities for the 7th and 8th grade teenagers have started because of volunteer’s help who began with our teenagers weekly tutoring meetings. We, the workers from the Center are so thankful and encouraged by the work, dedication, enthusiasm and passion of these special people.
Other news:
Partnerships
We succeeded into making our partnerships with Nicolae Iorga School, Traian Darjan School and Horea School official through an Agreement both The Day Center and the Schools previous mentioned signed. Through this official documents, we agreed to assist the teenagers coming from Nicolae Iorga, Traian Darjan or Horea School who are applying to get in our Program at the Center while these schools represented by its principals agreed to do everything in their power to inform and encourage the teenagers of the school coming from poor families to get the help they need from Herald Foundation.
Due to a good partnership, these schools have given us classrooms for tutoring activities we offer to the assisted teenagers.
Visits to all assisted teenagers families
We also visited assisted teenagers families in order to gather data about the environment where they live, about their family situation, about the problems and needs they are struggling with. So we completed for every assisted teenager a social investigation. This kind of work helps us to evaluate and understand every case, every life situation we deal with and to know how to interfere in order to increase the teenager’s quality life.
Group meetings for assisted teenagers
The 7th, 8th ,9th and 10th grade teenagers attend discussions and support groups with educational role where they have the opportunity to discover who they are, what their needs are and how to fulfill them in a healthy way, how to establish good relationships, how to deal with frustration, how to be assertive, to accept and love themselves. Our aim is to offer a Christian perspective on the true values, on how to relate with themselves and with the others. They also have the opportunity to attend personal development and spiritual growth meetings when they are acquainted with different bible characters and they learn from their experiences how to deal with the difficulties in their lives and are challenged to adopt Christian attitudes, values and principles.
