OUR AIM
Our aim is that the Day Centre could represent a social, emotional, educational, material and spiritual resource for the teenagers, aiming to improve their lifestyle, the living conditions, the results they have in school, the family situation, their self esteem and the abilities they need in the society.
BENEFICIARIES
The teenagers we assist are students from 7th to 11th grade. We established an official agreement with the “Nicolae Iorga” School and the “Traian Darjan” School from which we select 7th and 8th grade teenagers.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- teenagers facing financial and material difficulties
- teenagers living in poor conditions and background
- teenagers who come from single parent or dysfunctional families
- teenagers facing integration problems in school, problems keeping up with the school curriculum
- teenagers facing emotional problems
- teenagers who admit the need of change and are ready to assume responsibility of participating to Day Center activities
ASSISTANCE GIVEN
- Primary prevention
During group meetings with adolescents divided by different groups according to their age and their program and individual counseling, we will target:
• prevention of alcohol, drugs and tobacco addiction
• prevention of computer and TV addiction
• prevention of sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers, etc.
• prevention of teen involvement in harmful activities and negative entourage
- Tutoring sessions for Romanian literature and grammar, and math’s in order to prepare the teenagers for their school exams and to help them continue in the educational system;
- Assistance, education and personal development groups where the teenagers have the opportunity to discover who they are, what their needs are and how to fulfill them in a healthy way, how to establish good relationships, how to deal with frustration, how to be assertive;
- Individual counseling sessions in order to support and motivate the teenagers for a positive change in their lives;
- Social activities and leisure for the teenagers in order to provide a Christian alternative, to develop healthy relationships and to prevent negative peer pressure. We organize camps, parties, we do activities like celebrating birthdays, Christmas, Easter, 1st of June, watching and discussing educational movies,;
- Educational counseling for the teenagers, helping them to discover what their talents and gifts are and we assist the teenagers in the professional choices they have to make which influence their entire life and how to choose a future profession;
- Sexual education program in order to prevent early sexual behaviors with negative consequences in the teenagers lives;
- Material and financial aid – the teenagers receive donations including clothes, objects of personal hygiene and for domestic use, school supplies, food or money, according to their needs and also according to Foundation possibilities;
ASSISTANCE DURATION
A contract is signed for a year with every assisted teenager. After this period, the results of the evaluation regarding our co-operation will indicate if the assistance continues or ceases. The assistance can last up to 4 years.
THE PLAN OF ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2011
1. Groups of Assistance and Education (January – June 2011, September – December 2011) – assisting the teenagers with problems regarding entourage, vicious habits (smoking, alcohol, drugs, TV and Internet addiction), lack of assertive communication, difficulties in managing the conflict, verbal and behavioral violence, low self-esteem, sexual and sentimental relationships with different consequences upon their personal development and upon their life.
2. Individual Counseling for Teenagers (January – July 2011) – our aim is to support, encourage, motivate the teenagers to change ( in case of aberrant thinking, inappropriate behavior), to offer emotional counseling, support in their difficulties, either material or emotional.
3. Agreement of Collaboration Regarding Assistance ( February- March 2011) - personal meetings with the teenagers and their parents/ guardians to sign the collaboration contract that stipulates the aid of the foundation, the teenager’s rights and duties, as well as sanctions and terms of agreement.
4. Tutoring sessions for Mathematics, Romanian Language and Literature (February – June 2011, November – December 2011)

Monitoring and Evaluating the tutoring sessions (February – June 2011, November – December 2011) - monthly, through discussions, both with the volunteers that teach Mathematics, Romanian Language and Literature and with the beneficiaries; all in all, we evaluate the relationship volunteer – teenager, the quality of teaching, the teenager’s evolution and his/her involvement, the difficulties they encounter in the process of teaching/learning.
6. Training for the Volunteers (January – December 2011) -meetings every two months with the volunteers - they are motivated, encouraged and trained in order to know how to relate to teenagers; the meetings aforementioned make their work more efficient and their interest of collaborating with the Herald Charity more stable.
7. Monitoring and Evaluating the Volunteers (January – December 2011) an entertaining activity precedes the questionnaire the volunteers will complete (the questionnaire evaluates their work), as well, monthly discussions with the volunteers are necessary to monitor and evaluate them.
8. Elaborating and Preparing the Materials for the Groups (January – June 2011) - weekly, we elaborate the materials, the activities and the necessary questions for the two groups’ activity.
9. Cultural, Entertaining and Socializing Events for all the Assisted Teenagers (one event a month) - these include going to the theatre, museum or to other cultural events, trips, pizza, sportive events, workshops with artistic hand-made things, watching movies, celebrating birthdays, Christmas, Easter, the 1st of June, Thanksgiving Day, Friendship’s Day and other assemblies or creative activities, followed by constructive discussions with the teen-agers.
10. Program of Sexual Education for the Teenagers that are in the first year of assistance (April 2011) - we want to prevent the sexual behaviors with detrimental repercussions upon their lives.
11. Evaluating the Program of Sexual Education (the end of April 2011) - a questionnaire that evaluates the quality of the intervention and the offered information, our staff’s professionalism and training ensure the program’s efficiency.
12. Career Orientation Program (May 2011) – individual discussions and group activities which imply personal development, the management of learning and information, choices for a career; the teenagers are counseled for their future career.
13. Evaluating the Career Orientation Program (May 2011) - through a questionnaire which evaluates the quality of intervention and the applicability of the offered information, our staff’s vocational training and professionalism when counseling, the efficiency of the program.
14. Preparing the Summer Camp (May – July 2011) - we find the place, we establish the menu, then we develop the program, the themes and the activities, in the end we recruit/train the volunteers that will give a hand in the camp.
15. Evaluating the Individual Counseling of the Teenagers (June – July 2011) - we analyze the aspects regarding assistance reported to our aims and we note whether there are any changes in the teenagers’ lives after counseling, we evaluate also the involvement and the interest of our beneficiaries.
16. Evaluating the Groups for Assistance and Education (June 2011) - a questionnaire that asks for details regarding the group meetings will be applied to the teenagers (enquiries about the atmosphere, relationships, the quality of information, the debates on different themes, the activities, the competence and training of the group leaders, the changes in their lives and their decisions that followed the discussions).
17. Final Evaluation of the Teenagers’ Assistance (June – July 2011) - we will establish a level of efficiency for both the employees and for the volunteers (through a questionnaire).
18. Summer Camp (August 2011) - a daily program will be established: personal hygiene, breakfast, lunch, dinner, time for meditation, we will also organize activities that include discussions on different themes, games, contests.
19. Summer Camp Evaluation (immediately after return)
• again a questionnaire will be applied concerning the activities, the program of the camp; we ask for suggestions that will be taken into account in the next summer camps (all the participants to the camp will answer the questions - the organizers, the volunteers and the teenagers).
20. Elaborating the Plan of Activities for the Year of Assistance 2011 (September 2011) - we catalogue and plan the activities for the following year depending on the teenagers’ needs.
21. Adjusting and Improving the Materials we used in the Process of Assistance: Social Investigation, Evaluations, and Questionnaires (September 2011) - we evaluate all the materials of assistance and we change the possible improper aspects in order to make them better.
22. Establishing a New List of Beneficiaries (September – November 2011) - we will establish the criteria of selection, then we’ll do social investigations and a preliminary inventory about the problems the teenager is confronting with.
23. Cataloguing the Teenagers’ Problems (November – March 2011) - on the basis of social investigations, the questionnaire ‘Personal Evaluation’, etc, we will identify together with the teenagers all the problems they have.
24. Elaborating the Instruments for the Groups of Counseling and Education (September – December 2011) - all the techniques, the materials and the themes for managing the group of teenagers will be configured.

26. Group of Assistance and Education for the New Beneficiaries (November – December 2011) - weekly discussions in the group having as a starting point the manual ‘The Art of Loving Yourself’.
