NOVEMBER 2008

Thanksgiving Day Celebration

In November we celebrated Thanksgiving Day, a time when we had the opportunity to remember and discuss about all the reasons we have to be thankful to God, who blessed our lives with so many blessings and wonders.
The 7th and 8th grade new assisted teenagers were motivated when we celebrated Thanksgiving Day at the Center to be thankful for who they are, what they have and what God has done for them.
For the others 20 assisted teenagers we organized a trip in Rusesti, from 21st to 23rd of November. The trip was named "Thanksgiving Celebration” and the teenagers discovered the benefits of a grateful spirit, the power they have when they are thankful and how to become grateful people even when they struggle with difficulties.
The trip was full of joy, fun and friendship, openness for a life evaluation, for remembering all the blessings they experience every day. Our daily program included activities like small group discussions, songs, games and competitions, craft workshops or movie watching. One of the tasks for each participant was to make a card for someone in camp in which to write what the other person should be grateful for. During the entire week end we played the thankfulness’ game and everyone was challenged to find something to be grateful for in every situation, no matter how unpleasant or uncomfortable; no complains or critics were allowed. At the end of the trip, we had prizes for the most grateful teen-agers, who were rewarded for their attitude. The special moments of the time we spent in Rusesti were the games we play with the snow, the festive dinner from Saturday, when we had cake and juice and we talked about the thing we were grateful for this year and we counted our blessings. At the end of the trip, the teenagers could chose from special gifts we brought for them.
After the trip we had an evaluation meeting at the Day Center, and the teenagers and volunteers evaluations reassured us that the trip was useful for everyone.

Pizza Party

Also in November, we had a party with the teenagers, when everyone learned how to make his own pizza, we watched a movie together and we talked about what we have learnt from it.
