NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 2008

In November 2008 we canceled the contract of Mrs. Gall Susana (suffering from schizophrenia) at her wish. Despite our efforts to persuade her to receive our help, which was so necessary, the lack of treatment aggravated her condition and so our collaboration became impossible.
Therefore, throughout this period we have assisted 8 persons aged 60-86 years, very lonely, sick persons, some of them being immobilized in their homes and having a very low income, impossible to survive with.
Because of bad weather and poor health condition of the ladies, the walking outside became rare. Still, we took out for a walk some of them, the most courageous ones, and ate cakes at tearoom.
Other activities and assistance specific for their age-group were accomplished accordingly to the needs, difficulties and loneliness they face constantly.
We wanted them to have a "plentiful" and beautiful Christmas, that brings them joy, and therefore we focused on the emotional-spiritual need, as well as on the material need.
Beside monthly shopping at Carrefour, we conducted a food-raising campaign, entitled "The basket of joy", which took place inside Iulius Mall, at supermarket Auchan. Consequently, the elder ladies we assist received significant packs of food products and they were very grateful, thanking us with tears in their eyes.
When we delivered the food packages we were accompanied by TV reporters from NCN who interviewed them and succeded to catch some special moments to be broadcasted.
We also delivered the food packages received from City Hall, and this way we'd like to thank to people involved and express our gratitude for their help.
For the same purpose of raising funds for the assisted persons we conducted a piano recital, held by famous pianist Daniel Goiti and also a painting exhibition for sale.
Since elder persons are extremely labile and feel a strong need for comfort, support and security, at their own request we red from the Bible, we prayed together for their health and urged them to do the same whenever they need that.
Visiting them at their homes, which they really look forward to, we managed to drive away their feelings of loneliness and also to keep in touch with the events and happenings in their lives. On these occasions we use to give them fruit or candies, which they truly enjoy.
We also did the weekly shopping for them (bread, milk, etc), purchased the drugs from the pharmacy, cleaned their homes, payed the bills, etc.
We tried to help them solve the problems they are facing, and most of the times the results were satisfactory.
Spiritual counseling has always helped them to accept the problem, look for a solution along with us and overcome the crisis, receiving, as a consequence, that peace of mind they so longed for.
In December, Mrs. Turoczki Rozalia celebrated her birthday, so we offered her a nice present and candies, along with our love.
To make them feel the joy of Christmas, we asked the volunteers to help us and they came to Herald's, took gifts, sweet breads and fruit, and afterward they delivered it to every single assisted person.
In order to help them feel even more profoundly the real meaning of Christmas, we initiated some groups to carol them for making them feel they are not alone and, most of all, for reminding them the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. They felt really happy and grateful, as they confessed : "We've never had such an abundant and joyful Christmas!".
I wish to emphasize the fact that a lot of the assistance and activities dedicated to our "dear old ladies" was possible due to the contribution of the volunteers, whom I'd like to thank for their decision to invest a part of their life for such a great goal : to bring light, joy and hope upon these souls, apparently forgotten by their neighbors and by time itself.
We also wish to give thanks to all our sponsors, who helped us accomplish our mission and may God, who never forsakes the one who serves Him, bless them tenfold!
